Meet Our New Apprentice Quantity Surveyor: Ben McLuskey

We’re excited to welcome our newest apprentice, Ben McLuskey, who recently joined the team and is already making a great impression. As part of his introduction, we sat down for a quick Q&A to learn more about his background, motivations, and what he’s looking forward to in this next chapter.

Why did you want to become a Quantity Surveyor?

"I wanted to become a Quantity Surveyor because it gives me a great insight into how buildings and structures are created. I’ve always been interested in how much planning and costing goes into construction projects, and this career path gives me a real opportunity to understand that process from the inside."

What appealed to you about this apprenticeship?

"This apprenticeship stood out to me because it offers the chance to work alongside experienced professionals, as well as people who are at a similar stage in their careers. It’s a great balance as I’m learning on the job while also working towards a qualification, which is exactly what I was looking for."

What qualifications did you need to get onto your course at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU)?

"To get onto the GCU course, the entry requirements were BBCC at Higher level."

What are you hoping to learn from your apprenticeship?

"I hope to learn how to deal with all situations in an appropriate manner and how to work alongside colleagues to provide a high-quality service."

What are you most looking forward to in your first few months?

"I’m really looking forward to meeting new people in my first few months and learning new, useful skills."

And finally, tell us a bit about yourself outside of work?

"My interest outside of work would be football whether it is playing it or watching it and my favourite place would have to be Dubai."

At nbm, we’re committed to investing in the next generation of talent through meaningful apprenticeship opportunities. As highlighted in our recent news article on how we're supporting tomorrow’s Quantity Surveyors, our apprenticeship programme provides real-world experience, mentorship from industry experts, and the chance to earn a professional qualification while working on live projects.
