Matthew Brown has been promoted to Senior Quantity Surveyor, around 18 months after he joined the business as a Project Quantity Surveyor.
During that time, Matthew has developed his experience across a range of housing and residential projects, becoming increasingly involved in their day-to-day management and delivery. His responsibilities have grown to include preparing Bills of Quantities and cost plans, managing tender processes, valuations and contract administration, as well as working directly with clients and contractors.

He has built strong relationships with clients, consultants and colleagues, and now supports our apprenticeship programme in a mentoring role. Matthew credits the responsibility he has been given on live projects, together with the support of experienced colleagues, as an important part of his development.
“Being given responsibility on live projects has been a big part of my development,” Matthew explained. I’ve also had the opportunity to work alongside experienced colleagues, clients and contractors. That has helped me build my confidence and learn from a range of different experiences.”
Working primarily across housing and residential projects has allowed Matthew to gain experience at different stages of the project lifecycle. “Being involved from the early stages through to construction has helped me build my knowledge and develop a better understanding of how each stage of a project connects.”
In his new role, Matthew will continue to take greater responsibility for managing projects while contributing to the development of colleagues across the business.
“I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility and continuing to develop my experience,” he said. I’m also keen to become more involved in managing projects and to support the rest of the team wherever I can.”
Reflecting on his experience so far, Matthew believes the range of work and the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues make NBM a strong environment for professional development.
“My advice to anyone considering joining NBM would be to make the most of the opportunities available and learn from the experienced people around you. There is a good range of work and plenty of opportunity to develop your skills and progress your career.”
Matthew’s promotion reflects the increased responsibility he has assumed since joining NBM and the contribution he continues to make across the business.
